Systematic Review of NLP Tools for Rehabilitation Outcome Extraction and Proposal for Scalable PEPPER Integration

Learning Objectives:

• Analyze recent NLP studies (2019-2025) to identify their performance metrics, data sources, and workflow bottlenecks created by manual preprocessing.
• Demonstrate how integrating the PEPPER platform into an NLP pipeline can automate raw-data retrieval from EMRs and improve the scalability of rehabilitation-outcomes research.
• Describe the rehabilitation-related outcome domains (e.g., ADLs, mobility, pain, quality of life, body-function impairments) most frequently extracted from unstructured EMR notes using NLP.
