Using Familiar Tools in a New Way: Portable Parallel Bars Translation into the Home Rehab 2571

The presentation will discuss the efficacy of use of mobile parallel bars in the home and facilities to increase safety of the patient and the staff and discuss how it may help patients make functional improvements quicker.  There will be case studies presented.

Learning Objectives:

  • Upon completion, participant will be able to, barriers to Early Mobilization will be understood. Many patients face obstacles to standing and balance training due to safety concerns, fear of falling, and lack of proper equipment. Addressing these barriers is critical to preventing deconditioning, pressure injuries, and cognitive decline.
  • Upon completion, participants will understand practical solutions for Bedside Therapy by reviewing transfer and equipment options. In particular, they will learn how Portable Parallel Bars have been integrated into patient care for early mobility and how this tool offers a safe and structured alternative to walkers.
  • Upon completion, participants will learn how translating hospital-based mobility solutions into home healthcare is feasible based on a pilot study with a 19-year-old patient with incomplete SCI to improve mobility outcomes. A follow-up in-home rehab pilot will provide further insights.
  • Upon completion, participants will be able to improve patient confidence and hospital and in home therapy effectiveness.
  • Upon completion, participants will be able to understand technology development and translation to bring innovations to market.
