Dr. Melicosta received her BA and MD degrees from Brown University, and a Masters degree in Public Health from Johns Hopkins University. After completion of her pediatric residency at the University of Minnesota, she worked as the director of the Adolescent Clinic at the Harvard Street Neighborhood Health Center; and then at the Whittier Street Health Center in Boston where she worked with the state Department of Health on refugee screening, and developed a program integrating primary care pediatrics and mental health services. Following her time in Massachusetts, she served as a pediatrician for the Indian Health Service in New Mexico, and the Department of Defense in Wiesbaden, Germany, focusing on children with special health care needs in both settings.
Dr. Melicosta joined the Kennedy Krieger Institute as a pediatric hospitalist in 2014. She was the Medical Director of the Inpatient Rehabilitation Unit at KKI from 2019 through mid-2023; and is currently the Associate Chief Medical Officer and Vice President of Quality, Patient Safety and Professional Affairs. She is an Assistant Professor in Pediatrics at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. Her focus is caring for children with medical complexity, particularly in low-resource settings.
