Jessica D. Richardson, Ph.D., CCC-SLP, is a Professor at The University of New Mexico in the Department of Speech and Hearing Sciences. She also serves as Co-Director of the Clinical Core for the UNM Center for Brain Recovery and Repair and as Co-Lead of the Outreach, Recruitment, and Engagement Core for the New Mexico Alzheimer’s Disease Research Center. Her research interest is acquired brain injury, with a specific focus on aphasia recovery, and management of primary progressive aphasia. She specializes in innovations in assessment, particularly outcome measures that predict real-world communication abilities and life participation. Her work also includes advancing treatment approaches, with a focus on speech-language and cognitive interventions, complemented by adjunctive strategies like brain stimulation and music-based or social approaches. Ultimately, her goal is to enhance the lives of individuals with acquired communication disorders and their loved ones, while also educating and empowering communities to foster more inclusive, accessible environments for those facing significant changes in their communication abilities.
