I am a clinician-scientist with research expertise in pain neuroscience and rehabilitation and clinical expertise in assessing and treating individuals with chronic musculoskeletal conditions. As the Director of the Clinical Orthopedic Rehabilitation and Research Laboratory, my long-term research goal is to understand mechanisms of pain and how non-pharmacological interventions (i.e. exercise and complementary therapies) improve functional outcomes and reduce the risk of developing chronicity of pain and related dysfunctions.
I have been working in the field of chronic pain for the past 16 years and thus, I understand the challenges associated with pain management of chronic pain conditions e.g. fibromyalgia. I have experience in designing, implementing, and leading observational, interventional, and retrospective studies with patient reported outcome measures. I have received both institutional (Great Plans Collaborative (GPC); Frontier Stimulus Grant; SHP Grant; RISE Grant) and foundational (APTA PODII; APTA Foundation; Orthopedic Section, APTA; Bardvon Incorporation) funding over the past 15 years to study neurophysiology of chronic pain and efficacy of rehabilitation approaches in individuals with low back pain.
