Lisa Lighthall Haubert, MPT, DPT, KEMG, is the Research Co-Director for the 2021-2026 Southern California SCI Model System, leading the Site-Specific Research Project evaluating a 10-week nonpharmacologic pain management program for Individuals with SCI and chronic pain. She is Senior Research Physical Therapist for the Pathokinesiology Laboratory at Rancho Los Amigos National Rehabilitation, where she has coordinated, performed, analyzed and disseminated SCI research for over 20 years. She is a licensed kinesiologic electromyographer, beginning her training in 2001 to perform testing and recommend interventions for those with persistent movement and functional challenges from neurologic and orthopedic injuries. She was recently the site PI for the collaborative DOD-funded SCI Pain Evolution Study (2020-24). Lisa’s research has focused on prevention and treatment of pain and functional mobility enhancement after SCI.
Lisa has published over 17 manuscripts and was awarded one of 3 best papers at the GCMAS Meeting in 2017 (Haubert LL et al (2017). Comparison of temporal spatial characteristics and shoulder kinematics and kinetics during reverse and conventional manual wheelchair propulsion in persons with paraplegia). She has served as a reviewer for numerous journals, including APMR (2011-present), Rehabilitation Research and Development (2011-present) and Frontiers in Bioengineering and Biotechnology (2015-present) and recently completed expert review of the Consortium for Spinal Cord Medicine and PVA’s newest Clinical Practice Guideline, “Management of Pain after SCI”.
Lisa received her BS in Biopsychology from the University of California at Santa Barbara (1993), her Master's in Physical Therapy from the University of Southern California (USC) (1996), and her transitional Doctorate in PT from Arcadia University (2019). She has served as adjunct clinical faculty for USC and part-time lecturer in DPT programs at California State University, Long Beach, and is a community board member and nominating committee chair for St. Mary’s Hospital (since 2023) in Long Beach, CA.
