Dr. Kantak is the codirector of the Pathokinesiology Laboratory at Rancho Los Amigos National Rehabilitation Center, and an adjunct Associate Professor of Physical Therapy at the University of Southern California. As a physical therapist trained in motor learning and neuroplasticity, Dr. Kantak has a strong track record in research investigating the neural bases of motor recovery and neurorehabilitation. The overall goal of Dr. Kantak’s research is to understand the neurobehavioral mechanisms that underlie motor control and learning of goal-directed actions after brain injury with an overarching goal of designing and testing novel, evidence-informed rehabilitation strategies. Dr. Kantak’s research has been consistently supported by the National Institute of Health- Eunice Kennedy Shriver National Institute of Child health and human development (NICHD) since 2016. He has also received funding from the Albert Einstein Society and Neuromodulation for Rehabilitation. He has received several teaching and mentoring awards at the college and state level. As a rehabilitation clinician-scientist, he is passionate about translating laboratory findings in motor control and learning to clinically meaningful interventions in neurorehabilitation. He has been a recipient of multiple prestigious awards including the Neurology SIG award of excellence from the American Physical Therapy Association- Pennsylvania chapter, the J. Stanley Cohen award, and the Patricia Leahy Memorial Lecture award.
