Professor Cheng-Fong Lin is a faculty member in the Department of Physical Therapy and the Institute of Allied Health Sciences at National Cheng Kung University (NCKU), Tainan, Taiwan. She holds a qualification in physical therapy and a Master’s degree in Biomedical Engineering from Taiwan, and earned her Ph.D. in Biomechanics of Human Movement from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
Prof. Lin is actively engaged in teaching, research, community service, and academic consultation in the fields of physical therapy and biomedical engineering. Her areas of expertise include lower extremity biomechanics, as well as the prevention and rehabilitation of sports injuries.
Her research primarily focuses on sports biomechanics, with an emphasis on foot and ankle modeling and performance analysis, particularly in ballet dancers and runners. Her interdisciplinary work integrates knowledge from rehabilitation science, computer science, and bioengineering.
Prof. Lin has received funding from the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Science and Technology, as well as from medical device and footwear companies. She has also participated in numerous international research collaborations involving Taiwan, the United States, Japan, and Thailand.
She has published extensively in the areas of lower limb biomechanics, sports performance, sports injury prevention and rehabilitation, gait retraining, footwear modification, and musculoskeletal physical therapy.
In recent years, Prof. Lin has expanded her research scope by collaborating with the oncology team at NCKU Hospital. Over the past three years, she has contributed to the development of cancer rehabilitation programs and AI-based platforms for evaluating the effectiveness of physical therapy interventions on quality of life and survival outcomes.
