I am Heerak Choi, Ph.D., CRC, a current postdoctoral fellow at the Center for Education and Health Sciences in the Feinberg School of Medicine at Northwestern University. My educational training in counseling psychology and clinical rehabilitation counseling has equipped me with the knowledge and skills necessary for conducting disability-related scientific research. Additionally, my clinical and research interests focus on the psychosocial functioning and successful career outcomes of individuals with disabilities, including youth. I have clinical experience supporting youth with disabilities for their successful employment at Project SEARCH, an evidence-based, business-led transition program, at the University of Wisconsin Hospital, and the Resource Center for Persons with Disabilities at Michigan State University. I have research experience investigating the psychosocial functioning and career outcomes of individuals with disabilities. My dissertation aimed to understand the relationship between self-stigma and career outcomes with an emphasis on self-determination among youth with disability. I have also led several research to explore other concepts, such as disability acceptance, discrimination, and self-determination of individuals with disabilities from diverse cultural backgrounds. In recognition of my contributions to the field, I was awarded the Nancy M. Crewe PhD Student Research Award from the American Psychological Association, Division of Rehabilitation Psychology, in 2025.
