Dr. Yuan Yang is an Associate Professor in Bioengineering and Neuroscience at University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign (UIUC). He is also an Associate Professor in Clinical Imaging (Stroke) at Carle Foundation Hospital and Adjunct Associate Professor in Physical Therapy and Human Movement Sciences at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine. He was a faculty member at Northwestern University Physical Therapy and Human Movement Science (2017-2020) and the University of Oklahoma Biomedical Engineering and Rehabilitation Sciences (2020-2023) before he joined UIUC and Carle Health. He is currently leading a multi-site engineering-based clinical study laboratory with research spaces in UIUC and Carle campuses with the main research topics on stroke rehabilitation, chronic pain management, and sex differences in aging brains. His bioengineering lab in UIUC develops novel neuromodulation and biomechanics approaches for neurorehabilitation. His clinical research lab at Carle Foundation Hospital runs registered clinical trials. His research is well-funded by the National Institutes of Health (NIH), National Science Foundation (NSF) and American Heart Association (AHA), with over 55 peer-reviewed journal publications. He received AHA Career Development Award in 2022 and NSF Faculty Early Career Development (CAREER) Award in 2023. He has been a grant reviewer for NIH, NSF, and several international funding agencies (e.g., Italian Multiple Sclerosis Society (AISM-FISM)). He has been an Expert Committee Member in “Physical Activity and Rehabilitation – Neuroimaging and Readaptation” Review Panel for the Canada Foundation for Innovation’s (CFI). He is a member of Sigma Xi - The Scientific Research Honor Society, one of the oldest international honor societies in the world.
