For more than 18 years, Nicholas Evans' research and clinical interests have focused on the development, delivery, and assessment of training interventions aimed at improving health and function in persons with neurological injury. His goal is to better understand and advance the treatment of people with neurological injuries through the development and implementation of novel exercise and rehabilitation approaches. In support of this goal, Dr. Evans has a background in human physiology, with specific training and expertise in the physiological responses to exercise, the quantitative assessment of human movement, and the targeted delivery of rehabilitation technologies.
In his clinical role at Shepherd Center in Atlanta, GA, Dr. Evans has held the position of Clinical Exercise Physiologist in an outpatient, community-based rehabilitation program. A major component of the program is to develop and implement exercise training programs aimed at improving health, fitness, and function among persons with spinal cord injury and acquired brain injury. In his research role, he has served as both the Principal Investigator and Co-investigator on clinical resource and federally funded grants. In addition, Dr. Evans has acquired extensive hands-on experience deploying various rehabilitation technologies including robotic exoskeleton locomotor training devices, functional electrical stimulation, and transcranial direct current stimulation. He has a strong interest in investigating novel rehabilitation and exercise strategies aimed at improving health and function among those living with motor impairments and aspires to advance the treatment and care of persons with neurological injury or disease using such interventions.
