Dr. Hayejin Kim is an occupational therapist specializing in stroke rehabilitation research. She earned her Ph.D. in Research in Occupational Therapy from New York University and holds a master’s degree in Occupational Therapy from the University of Southern California. In September 2025, she began her postdoctoral fellowship at the Center for Stroke Rehabilitation Research at the Kessler Foundation.
Dr. Kim’s research is driven by a commitment to advancing technology-based rehabilitation to improve accessibility and clinical outcomes for underserved populations. Her work focuses on integrating innovative technologies—including virtual reality, wearable devices, and mobile health applications—into stroke rehabilitation, with a particular emphasis on understanding and enhancing patient engagement.
As part of her postdoctoral work, Dr. Kim plans to explore the neurobiological mechanisms underlying patient engagement in technology-based interventions and examine how engagement-enhancing strategies influence brain activation and rehabilitation outcomes using functional MRI (fMRI). Her long-term goal is to bridge the gap between cutting-edge technology and real-world clinical practice, empowering individuals with stroke to access effective rehabilitation services and lead fulfilling lives in their communities.
