Clinical Associate Professor of Radiation Oncology
University of Michigan
I am a Clinical Associate Professor of Radiation Oncology at the University of Michigan. My clinical expertise is in the management of head and neck cancer including evaluating radiation treatment plans and prescribing radiation therapy for head and neck cancer patients. I have an active clinical practice. I am experienced in discussing clinical trials with patients and enrolling patients onto clinical trials. I am an active member of the multi-disciplinary head and neck cancer team at the University of Michigan. I participate in the multi-disciplinary tumor board meetings on a weekly basis. In addition, I am an active member of the head and neck cancer research team.
I also have clinical and academic expertise in understanding barriers to clinical trial enrollment. I have conducted a large, patient level retrospective study at the University of Michigan Rogel Cancer Center demonstrating that nearly half of patients who are eligible for a trial are not offered enrollment. I have served on the NRG Health Care Access Committee since April 2020. I am also a member of the Center for Bioethics and Social Sciences in Medicine as well as the Institute for Health Policy Innovation at the University of Michigan.
Ongoing and recently completed projects that I would like to highlight include development of a pilot phase II protocol to study the role of sentinel lymph node biopsy in directing post-operative radiation fields for oral cavity cancer; this trial is currently open to enrollment. I am also currently conducting a quantitative study of clinical trial participant experiences in radiation oncology at my institution to inform the development of interventions aimed at facilitating clinical trial offers in patient encounters.
