My name is Rachel Alonzo, OTR/L, CLWT-LANA and I am currently employed with Mayo Clinic in Florida. I have been an Occupational Therapist for 24 years working in the various settings of Skilled Nursing, Outpatient, Inpatient, Acute Care, Home Health, and the school system. It was 11 years ago that I received my training for Lymphedema Therapy and since have dedicated my therapy career to this population alone. For the past 5 1/2 years, as an employee for Mayo Clinic, I've been strongly motivated to implement a more effective way to treat Lymphedema in America as opposed to the traditional means of treatment that is based off of the European medical curriculum and healthcare infrastructure. In addition, 2 years ago I embarked on the teaching portion of my career as I took on an instructor position with the Academy of Lymphatic Studies in order to be part of the movement to get more health professionals certified with Lymphedema care. I am excited to see Lymphatics becoming more mainstream in the public eye and I look forward to facilitating any avenue that can make Lymphedema care more readily available to those who need it in our country!
