Research Health Technician

Michael Allen is a graduate of Wayne State University, where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Biological Sciences. Currently serving as a Research Health Technician at the John D. Dingell VA Medical Center, Michael is involved in spinal cord injury research. His work with disabilities and veterans has also deepened his appreciation for patient-centered care and the role of science in improving quality of life.
In addition to his research background, Michael is a certified nursing assistant (CNA), which has provided him with firsthand experience in patient care. These roles have shaped his professional interests in internal medicine and family medicine, fields he is drawn to for their emphasis on continuity of care and long-term patient relationships.
Michael has demonstrated leadership and a commitment to service throughout his academic career. He served as President of the Delta Mu chapter of Phi Gamma Delta, where he fostered a culture of academic excellence and civic engagement. As an Organic Chemistry Learning Assistant, he supported undergraduate students in mastering challenging coursework, reflecting his passion for mentorship and collaborative learning.
A strong advocate for food security, Michael has dedicated volunteer hours to addressing hunger and food access within his community. This service focus aligns with his broader goal of reducing barriers to care and supporting underserved populations.
With a foundation in both research and direct patient care, Michael is now pursuing admission to medical school. He aspires to become a compassionate and community-oriented physician who integrates evidence-based medicine.
