Lutfiyya N. Muhammad, PhD, MPH, is an Associate Professor in the Department of Preventive Medicine within the Division of Biostatistics and Bioinformatics at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine. She is also a Biostatistics Collaboration Center (BCC) faculty member. Research topics of peer-reviewed publications from Dr. Muhammad's BCC collaborations include assessing skin lightening trends in the US, evaluating resiliency and professional setbacks during the COVID-19 pandemic among academics, and development of a novel professional aesthetic scale for the abdomen of females that underwent plastic surgery.
As a collaborative biostatistician, Dr. Muhammad has provided statistical expertise to researchers during all phases of biomedical research. She collaborates with investigators on basic science research and studies involving human participants. Her statistical research interests are longitudinal data analyses including mixed effect models and approaches for handling missing data across time. Dr. Muhammad primarily collaborates on research projects related to rheumatology. Several research projects include understanding pain centralization within rheumatoid arthritis patients, assessing relationships between systemic sclerosis disease activity measures and esophageal epithelium cells, evaluating the role of macrophages in the development of scleroderma related lung fibrosis, and identifying clinical factors associated with physical activity longitudinal trends among clusters of rheumatoid and osteoarthritis patients.
