Matt Farley, PT, DPT, is a dedicated clinician-scientist integrating his roles as an NRSA Postdoctoral Research Fellow at Northwestern University and a Registry Physical Therapist at the Shirley Ryan AbilityLab. This dual role enables him to translate patient needs into impactful research questions. Under the mentorship of Dr. Monica Perez, Dr. Farley’s research training surrounds the application of basic human neurophysiology to probe and elicit plasticity in cortical and spinal neural circuits. Dr. Farley’s research investigates the neural mechanisms underlying involuntary motor behaviors and sensorimotor recovery in individuals with Spinal Cord Injury. His ultimate aim is to translate these scientific discoveries into innovative neurorehabilitation strategies that improve functional outcomes and quality of life for individuals with neurological disabilities.
