Niita Maria Malima, 35 year old medical practitioner and entrepreneur in the Republic of Namibia. Founder and team leader of Uugumbo Medical, Namibia’s first comprehensive rehabilitation center, and owner of Kaiserin Medical Practice in Windhoek. Niita has a Honor’s Degree in Microbiology and Biochemistry, and a Bachelor’s degree in Medicine and Surgery, obtained at the University of Namibia.
Uugumbo Medical (Pty) Ltd is a Namibian owned company, established in 2013 for the purpose of pursuing the development and operations of the Uugumbo Trauma Rehabilitation Center (UTRC). The UTRC is slated to be a State-of-the-Art, 60-bed, sub-acute, physical rehabilitation facility with comprehensive in and outpatient treatment facilities. The UTRC strives towards providing a facility which offers the highest level of professional therapies ranging from physical, occupational, speech, and cognitive therapies to psychosocial therapies in a single institution. UTRC offers treatments designed to facilitate the recovery process from injury/trauma, illness, or disease and post-surgery to reintegrate into society.
Niita was involved in a fatal motor vehicle accident in September 2010, in which she sustained severe head injuries, soft tissue injuries, and multiple fractures that were managed with internal fixations. These injuries included a left acetabular fracture and hip dislocation, which resulted in avascular necrosis of the left hip, and eventually a total hip replacement in August 2019. At the time of the incident Dr Malima noted the inadequacy and limited options of the treatment regimens for her condition, as it related to rehabilitation and her capacity to return to reasonable mobility.
Having conducted research as to her condition, treatments and realizing the vast difference in what global standards for treatment were versus those available in Namibia, Dr Malima founded Uugumbo Medical CC, now (Pty) Ltd.
