Dr. Tunney is a Licensed Psychologist in the Department of Behavioral Psychology at Kennedy Krieger Institute and an Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine in Baltimore, Maryland. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Human Development and Family Studies from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and a Doctorate in Clinical Psychology with a specialization in children and families from Roosevelt University in Chicago, Illinois. Dr. Tunney completed her pre-doctoral internship and post-doctoral fellowship in pediatric psychology at Kennedy Krieger Institute and Johns Hopkins University.
She serves as the Director of the Inpatient Pediatric Psychology Rehabilitation Service, Director of the Inpatient Chronic Pain and Functional Rehabilitation Program, and Site Director of The Comfort Ability Program Workshop. She provides clinical psychological services to youth and families across various settings, including the Inpatient Pediatric Rehabilitation Unit, Limb Differences Clinic, Angelman Syndrome Clinic, Fit & Healthy Kids Clinic, and the Comfort Ability Program Workshop. Dr. Tunney also provides training and supervision to pre-doctoral interns and post-doctoral fellows in pediatric psychology. Clinical and research interests focus on the assessment and treatment of youth with acute and chronic medical conditions. Special interests and training include inpatient neurorehabilitation, medical and procedural preparation, chronic pain and functional neurological conditions, limb differences, and neurodevelopmental disabilities.
Dr. Tunney is a professional member of the American Psychological Association (APA) and the Society of Pediatric Psychology (SPP). She holds leadership positions in several SPP Special Interest Groups (SIG), including Chair of the Rehabilitation Medicine SIG and Chair of the Functional Neurological Symptom Disorder (FNSD) SIG.
