As a Professor of Music Therapy with 37 years of experience as a music therapy clinician, researcher and trainer Dr. Magee has particular expertise with delivering and researching music interventions with adults with prolonged disorders of consciousness (PDOC). From 1990-2004 she worked as a music therapist with adults with acquired and complex neurological conditions in a clinical setting. She was PI for the development of a music-based measure of awareness for adults with prolonged disorders of consciousness (the MATADOC) and has held co-investigator and PI roles in interdisciplinary international research teams with adults and children with PDOC. She was the senior investigator of a study that compared the neurophysiological and behavioral effects of contrasting music and auditory conditions in adults with PDOC. These collaborations have resulted in 64 peer-reviewed publications (full journal articles), including a Cochrane Review. Her research output has focused on developing knowledge translation tools including training manuals in Spanish, Portuguese and Chinese and guidelines for families and professional careers.
