Janice Tona, Ph.D., OTR, FAOTA is an occupational therapist and educational psychologist with over 40 years of rehabilitation experience. She currently serves as occupational therapy program director at the University at Buffalo.Dr. Tona's research interests inlclude exploring the role of occupational therapy in primary care settings, inlcuding dental offices, and understanding the role of occupational therapy for individuals with post infectious neuropsychiatric disorders. As one of the first occupational therapists to introduce Pediatric Acute Onset Neuropsychitric Syndrome (PANS) to the occupational therapy community, Dr. Tona has conducted collaborative research to understand the impact of early detection and medical treatment on daily living, as well as understading the affects of sypmtoms in this post-infectious disorder on daily living skills and caregiver stress.
Dr. Tona has recently extend her understanding of occupational engagement following post infectous disorder to adults with Long COVID, and recently completed study with colleagues and graduate students to determinie the feasibility of conducting an 11-week online group occuptional therapy intervention program for adults with Long COVID utililzing a lifestyle management approach. Dr. Tona is part of the University At Buffalo Long COVID interprofessional team.
