Dr. Melissa S. Brie, PsyD is a clinical neuropsychologist with joint clinical appointments with the Departments of Neurological Surgery and Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF). She specializes in cognitive rehabilitation, brain tumor survivorship, traumatic brain injury, and interdisciplinary care for individuals with complex neurological conditions.
Dr. Brie provides inpatient and outpatient neuropsychological services at ZSFG and serves as a core clinician in the UCSF NeuroCognitive Clinic, offering neuropsychological evaluation, cognitive rehabilitation, and health psychology services to individuals with brain tumors. Her work integrates clinical expertise with patient and caregiver education, interdisciplinary collaboration, and a strong focus on health equity.
A passionate educator and mentor, Dr. Brie oversees the training and supervision of postdoctoral fellows, teaches regularly through UCSF’s neuropsychology seminar series, and has presented at national and international conferences on cognition and brain cancer. She has also contributed to the development of language-concordant educational materials for patients, including resources now used internationally.
In addition to her clinical leadership, Dr. Brie is an active researcher. She is a co-investigator on multiple studies evaluating cognitive rehabilitation strategies in patients with lower grade gliomas and has co-authored peer-reviewed publications in Neuro-Oncology Practice, Neurosurgery, and Frontiers in Neurology. She serves as the current Co-Chair for the ACRM Cancer and Cognition Taskforce.
Dr. Brie’s work is grounded in her commitment to equitable, integrative, and evidence-based neuropsychological care. Her leadership in training, research, and advocacy continues to shape the future of cognitive rehabilitation in oncology and beyond.
