Rachael Brink Akay, PT, DPT is an Occupational Health PT turned PhD student. During her transition from the clinic to research, she taught a graduate level integrated physiology class as an adjunct professor at the University of Denver before starting the Rehabilitation Sciences PhD program at the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus. During her time in the Interdisciplinary Movement Science Laboratory, under the mentorship of Cory Christiansen, PT, PhD, she has focused on exploring the use of wearable sensors in the remote assessment of movement within the population of aging Veterans with lower-limb amputation. She also assists with the teaching of the University of Colorado Physical Therapy Program’s Movement Science coursework. Outside of research and teaching, she spends her time managing the calendars of and doing lots of driving for her 9- and 11-year-olds.
