Zaliha Binti Omar, an Honorary Professor at University Malaya, Malaysia, graduated in 1979 after her basic medical training at University Malaya. She underwent medical rehabilitation training at the University of London Postgraduate Medical School in 1981-1983. She pioneered academic capacity building in Rehabilitation Medicine and Sports Medicine over 25 years at University Malaya. This has grown to make medical rehabilitation services accessible to the population throughout Malaysia. Her commitment to contemporary commmunity-based rehabilitation has impacted upon the lives of 4 million Malaysians (2004 – 2015). She has, and is, passionate about helping to develop rehabilitation medicine throughout ASEAN and Asia. She is committed to lifelong learning and mentors many budding rehabilitation practitioners in Malaysia and internationally. Among her many awards are those from the Sultan of Perak and Selangor, Malaysia, the International Council for Caring Community, ISPRM (Herman Flax), Philippines Academy of Rehabilitation Medicine (Pillar of Excellence), ACRM (Commendation awards), University Malaya ( Figure) and Persons with Disabilities organizations. Her research focuses on leadership, community-based, geriatric ,and nature-based rehabilitation. Her recent publications stem from her primary research and collaborative research , including at ACRM.
