A Data-driven, Interdisciplinary, Quality Improvement Process for Sustainable Pressure Injury Prevention in Inpatient Rehabilitation 1907

This work presents a data-driven, interdisciplinary approach to preventing Hospital-Acquired Pressure Injuries (HAPI) in inpatient rehabilitation settings. Drawing on collaboration among nursing, allied health, physicians, and data science, the project addresses real-world quality improvement challenges and demonstrates strategies that may be adapted to other clinical issues. Findings highlight the potential for evidence-based interventions to improve patient outcomes and organizational practices.

Learning Objectives:

  • Upon completion, participants will be able to identify the contextual factors contributing to hospital-acquired pressure injuries (HAPIs) for inpatient rehabilitation populations.
  • Upon completion, participants will be able to stratify patients based on HAPI risk factors for inpatient rehabilitation populations.
  • Upon completion, participants will be able to explain the role of interdisciplinary communication forums in HAPI prevention.
  • Upon completion, participants will be able to assess the impact of HAPI event reporting and real-time trend monitoring for leadership oversight.
  • Upon completion, participants will be able to implement strategies that drive sustainable organizational changes to effectively prevent HAPIs.
