This pilot study explored the impact of a podcast-based Work-Integrated Learning (WIL) initiative on undergraduate students in the Health Sciences department at Central Washington University. Students were randomized into either a control or WIL group. The WIL group participated in a 12-week podcast internship involving research, content development, production, and social media engagement. The control group continued with standard coursework with no involvement in the podcast.
Outcomes were measured using validated surveys on student satisfaction, self-efficacy, and learning engagement. Results showed the WIL group reported higher satisfaction (100%), improved self-efficacy, and increased engagement compared to the control group. Students also developed valuable digital and communication skills.
This study demonstrates that podcast-based WIL is a feasible and effective educational tool in health and rehabilitation sciences. Future research should explore its long-term impact on student outcomes.
