Background: Pressure injuries are a complex medical problem in the spinal cord injury population which can impact quality of life and mental health.
Objective: This presentation will outline available patient reported outcome measures for use with patients with spinal cord injury and pressure injuries, in addition to implementation in our interdisciplinary wound care team.
Methods: Evidence-based assessments, interdisciplinary collaboration, and implementation strategies will be discussed. Common barriers will be discussed, including strategies for addressing these barriers across the healthcare continuum.
Results: Attendees will gain practical strategies to implement the use of patient reported outcome measures in the spinal cord and pressure injury population and incorporate into plan of care.
Conclusion: Quality of life is an under-addressed component to complex wound healing in the spinal cord injury population. Use of patient reported outcome measures in this domain can help clinicians identify potential barriers to healing and optimize care.
