This session presents novel findings on how rhythmic auditory stimulation (RAS) modulates subthalamic nucleus activity and gait performance in Parkinson's disease patients with deep brain stimulation. Attendees will learn to interpret beta-band local field potential recordings and their relationship to gait parameters (cadence, stride length, velocity), translating neuroscientific data into personalized auditory cueing strategies for optimized motor entrainment.

Learning Objectives:

Upon completion, participant will be able to describe the behavioral and neurophysiological responses of different rhythmic auditory stimulation (RAS) conditions on gait in individuals with Parkinson’s disease (PD) undergoing deep brain stimulation (DBS).
Upon completion, participant will be able to interpret the relationship between gait performance (e.g., cadence, stride length, velocity) and beta-band local field potential (LFP) activity in the subthalamic nucleus (STN) during RAS interventions.
Upon completion, participant will be able to discuss implications for personalized auditory cueing strategies based on neural and behavioral responses to optimize gait and entrainment in PD with DBS.
