My name is Julia Feldmann and I am a 24-year-old graduate student at Des Moines University, currently pursuing my Doctorate in Occupational Therapy. My previous education includes earning my Bachelor’s Degree in Kinesiology from Iowa State University, where I was actively involved in leadership roles within my sorority, as a member of an all-inclusive cheerleading squad, and as a pre-occupational therapy cabinet member within student government.
At Des Moines University thus far, I have continued my involvement in leadership through class officer positions and additional roles within the Student Occupational Therapy Association (SOTA) on campus. In addition to my academic workload, I hold a position as a respite care provider as well as involved in a work study position on campus. I am also engaged in various community outreach initiatives and am currently an active member of a research team.
My current research project involves analyzing data from a qualitative study examining intimate partner violence (IPV) from the perspective of homeless women. This research aims to identify the current gaps in care for women who have experienced IPV, particularly in terms of their physical and mental health, as well as overall impact on daily function. By gathering firsthand reports from this vulnerable population, the study will provide crucial data for healthcare providers. This research can help educate healthcare providers and society on the pressing needs of women who have experienced IPV, paving the way for a future where they receive the appropriate care and support while addressing the daily challenges they face in their lives.
