In my 19 years of practice as a physiatrist at Baylor Scott & White Institute for Rehabilitation, with the past 12 spent specializing in traumatic brain injury (TBI), I have become keenly aware of the healthcare hurdles faced with those surviving and living with catastrophic injury. Although a clinician at heart, I have participated in research efforts to improve outcomes for my patients with a focus on establishing evidence-based guidelines for TBI management, health promotion, healthcare utilization, and healthcare literacy.
