Katherine Dudek is a licensed physical therapist and second-year PhD student in the Department of Physical Rehabilitation Science at the University of Maryland, Baltimore. Her clinical and research careers are grounded in a shared mission: to improve mobility and independence in older adults by addressing both physical and psychological barriers to function. Katherine’s research explores how anxiety and fear of falling influence motor control and balance, using advanced techniques such as motion capture and electromyography to study postural response strategies in older adults.
Prior to beginning her doctoral studies, Katherine earned her DPT from the University of Mount Union, where she led a feedback-based community walking program aimed at enhancing gait performance and social engagement in older adults and individuals recovering from stroke. Her early experiences in both laboratory and clinical settings inspired her current focus on the intersection of biomechanics, neuroscience, and psychology in rehabilitation science.
At ACRM, Katherine aims to connect with researchers and clinicians dedicated to advancing evidence-based, person-centered care. Her work aligns with ACRM’s focus on interdisciplinary collaboration and translational research, particularly in the domains of geriatric rehabilitation and fall prevention. Through her ongoing studies, she hopes to contribute to the development of integrative rehabilitation strategies that reduce fall risk and empower older adults to lead active, confident lives.
