Tomas Yoshio Makiyama is a Brazilian physical therapist and clinical researcher with over 20 years of experience in neurorehabilitation. He holds a Master’s degree in Physical Therapy from the University of São Paulo (2003) and has dedicated his career to advancing evidence-based therapeutic strategies for individuals with neurological and orthopedic conditions.
As Clinical Director and co-founder of Vivax, Tomas leads the development and validation of rehabilitation protocols that integrate emerging technologies—most notably, the ARM robot, a portable system designed to deliver 3D functional movement therapy enhanced by gamification. His clinical leadership ensures that Vivax’s solutions are both therapeutically effective and adaptable to real-world clinical workflows.
Throughout his career, Tomas has worked with a diverse patient population, including individuals recovering from stroke, and musculoskeletal disorders. His dual expertise in clinical practice and applied research enables him to translate patient needs into practical, tech-enabled treatment models that support functional recovery and long-term engagement.
At Vivax, Tomas continues to focus on expanding access to high-quality, patient-centered rehabilitation by promoting the thoughtful use of digital and robotic tools in everyday care.
