I am currently a contractor with the National Institutes of Medicine in the Rehabilitation Medicine Department, and my research focuses on health care disparities among disabilited populations. I have a broad background in public health, with specific training in clinical and translational science and expertise in disability health disparities. I also have expertise in survey and interview development for primary data collection. As PI on several NIH and government funded projects, I laid the groundwork for the proposed research by developing culturally appropriate tools to evaluate impacts of hearing loss on perceived healthcare discrimination and quality of life. I successfully completed these studies by collaborating with the hearing loss community, hearing loss researchers and utilizing feedback from the community to strengthen my study methods and study tools. i hole high value in amplifying voices of marginalized populations in the work I conduct– I am aware of the importance of community-based participation in health studies and have included these steps in my timeline to ensure a culturally competent study that equitably represents patient experiences. My background in disability measures makes me suitable to lead this project. My expertise in community-based work and collaborations are pivitol to my success as a researcher.
