Postdoctoral Fellow II
University of Texas Medical Branch
My primary area of research focuses on social, environmental, and interpersonal influences on family caregiving and patient care and safety outcomes. As a postdoctoral fellow at the University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston (UTMB Health), I have successfully conducted mixed-methods research on topics directly influencing family caregivers, including dementia-related stigma, social support seeking, and stress and coping. At UTMB Health, I am part of a research team led by Dr. Monique Pappadis and funded by the National Institute on Aging that is developing an elder mistreatment (EM) screening tool and support intervention for older adults with cognitive impairment and their family caregivers. As part of this team, I lead studies examining EM risk factors and related support needs for older patients and their families. I am also leading a scoping review of methodological considerations for EM screening of older adults with cognitive impairment. In addition to my contributions to Dr. Pappadis' team, I am analyzing qualitative data for a pilot study funded by the UTMB Health Center for Violence Prevention that examines the help-seeking needs of dementia patients and their family caregivers.
