Austin Sovell is a fourth-year medical student at Chicago Medical School at Rosalind Franklin University, currently pursuing a career in Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation (PM&R) with a focus on neurorehabilitation. His academic interests include stroke, traumatic brain injury, and dysphagia, particularly within the context of Parkinson’s disease. He completed a clinical research externship at Shirley Ryan AbilityLab, where he contributed to a retrospective study evaluating current screening practices for aspiration risk in PD populations.
In addition to his research, Austin has been actively involved in inclusive rehabilitation efforts through adaptive sports programming and LGBTQ+ health advocacy. Outside of medicine, Austin enjoys running, yoga, gardening, and hunting for vintage finds at local thrift stores. He values balance and creativity in and outside of clinical work and is committed to advancing inclusive, evidence-based rehabilitation care.
