Dr. Chen is a Professor and Vice Chair of Research in the Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at the University of Alabama at Birmingham in Birmingham, Alabama, USA. She presently serves as the Director of the National Spinal Cord Injury Statistical Center that directs and manages the National Spinal Cord Injury Model Systems Database. Dr. Chen’s research focuses on the epidemiology, mortality, and secondary conditions after spinal cord injury (SCI) and has published >100 manuscripts in peer-reviewed journals. She is a member of the Editorial Board of the Topics in SCI Rehabilitation, Oversight Committee of the NIH SCI Common Data Elements, the Board of Directors for the American Spinal Injury Association (ASIA), and the International SCI Data Set Committee. She has been an active member of the American Congress of Rehabilitation Medicine (ACRM) SCI Interdisciplinary Special Interest Group since 2010. Dr. Chen was elected to the ACRM Fellow in 2018 and ASIA Fellow in 2019.
