Co-founder and Chief Scientist
Opmed.ai
Prof. Baruch Barzel is a physicist and applied mathematician, and the director of the Complex Network Dynamics Lab at Bar-Ilan University. His research spans optimization, complex systems, nonlinear dynamics, and network science. He earned his Ph.D. in physics at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem as a Hoffman Fellow, followed by postdoctoral training at Northeastern University’s Center for Complex Network Research and at the Channing Division of Network Medicine at Harvard Medical School.
Prof. Barzel’s work centers on the optimization of complex systems, with applications ranging from the dynamics of disease spreading to biological and healthcare systems, with a particular emphasis on healthcare optimization. He is co-founder and Chief Scientist of Opmed.ai, a company developing software to optimize healthcare operations.
His scientific achievements have been recognized with several awards, including the Racah Prize (2007), the Rector Prize for Scientific Innovation (2018), and the Krill Prize of the Wolf Foundation (2019). Beyond academia, Prof. Barzel is a frequently invited public lecturer on science and the humanities, and hosts a regular segment on Israel’s National Radio.
