Leon Chandler, MD is a clinical assistant professor at Wake Forest University School of Medicine in the Department of Orthopedics and Rehabilitation / as an attending physiatrist at Carolinas Rehabilitation at Atrium Health. He received his bachelor's degree at The Johns Hopkins University, and medical degree at SUNY Downstate College of Medicine. He completed residency at Temple University Hospital / Moss Rehab.
Dr. Chandler is passionate about undergraduate medical education and in that capacity currently serves on both the Committee on Admissions for the Wake Forest University School of Medicine as well as the MD Appeals (grades) Committee. He is also active in graduate medical education and has been an oral boards examiner for the American Board of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation for over a decade and has previously been a question writer for Part 1 (written) boards for the American Board of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation.
His clinical interests include stroke, traumatic brain injury, spasticity, neurorehabilitation and integrative medicine. He is board certified in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation as well as Brain Injury Medicine. His current research interests include spasticity management and its impact on gait parameters with future plans to investigate the use of non-invasive cranial nerve stimulation for neurorehabilitation after stroke and traumatic brain injury. He's a member of the American Congress of Rehabilitation Medicine, the American Academy of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, the Association for Academic Physiatrists and The International Society of Physical and Rehabilitation Medicine.
