Dr. Kraus’s research is dedicated to improving the health, function, and quality of life of individuals with acquired neurological conditions, with a particular focus on spinal cord injury. Her work aims to mitigate the long-term impact of neurological injury by addressing secondary health conditions and promoting optimal recovery through the development of effective interventions. She integrates innovative rehabilitation technologies with implementation science methodologies to design, deliver, and translate effective care strategies into real-world settings. Central to her approach is the advancement of occupational therapy and rehabilitation practices that support neurological recovery and sustained health outcomes. Additionally, Dr. Kraus is expanding her research to explore the role of occupational therapy in supporting individuals experiencing grief and bereavement related to acquired disability or loss.
Prior to completing her PhD, Dr. Kraus served as the lead spinal cord injury OT within an inpatient rehabilitation hospital which sparked her research agenda and trajectory. She has received funding from the Spinal Cord Injury Disease Research Program and The American Occupational Therapy Foundation to further her work. Dr. Kraus served on the Editorial Board of OTJR: Occupational Therapy Journal of Research for four years, with her specific efforts enhancing dissemination of evidence-based and scholarly work within the field of occupational therapy through increasing reach by 400-3500% across various platforms. After completing her postdoctoral fellowship in May 2025 collaborating with researchers at the University of Missouri-Columbia, Washington University in St. Louis, and NextGen Precision Health; Dr. Kraus has begun her role as a tenure-track Assistant Professor at the University of Missouri-Columbia in the College of Health Sciences' Department of Occupational Therapy
