Dr. Wingo is a tenured associate professor of occupational therapy at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) with expertise in dietary behavior and the influence of dietary patterns on health outcomes among people with physical disabilities and complex medical conditions. Her current research focuses on understanding the role of dietary patterns on symptoms, progression, and comorbid conditions of multiple sclerosis (MS), as well as adapting evidence-based interventions for adults with MS. After completing her doctoral training, she completed postdoctoral fellowships in comparative effectiveness research and behavioral interventions for obesity. The focus of these fellowships was training in the development, implementation, and evaluation of clinical trials for dietary and exercise interventions. She has experience conducting clinical trials of behavioral interventions with underrepresented minority groups, older adults, patients with multiple medical conditions, and adults and children with physical disabilities. She has received funding from the National MS Society, Paralyzed Veterans of America, NIH, and DOD.
