Dr. Norhayati Hussein is a Consultant Rehabilitation Physician at Hospital Rehabilitasi Cheras (HRC), where she leads both the Rehabilitation Medicine Department and the Neurological Rehabilitation Unit. She earned her postgraduate qualifications from the University of Malaya and completed a Clinical Fellowship in Neurorehabilitation in Canada. Her scholarly contributions span international collaborations and respected publications. She has been actively involved in the 16th to 19th editions of the Evidence-Based Review of Stroke Rehabilitation (EBRSR) and has co-authored chapters in leading reference texts, including Stroke Recovery and Rehabilitation (Stein et al.), Ischemic Stroke Therapeutics: A Comprehensive Guide (Ovbiagele & Turan), and Braddom’s Rehabilitation Care: A Clinical Handbook (Cifu & Lew).
At the national level, Dr. Norhayati serves as Deputy Head for the Rehabilitation Medicine Specialty within Malaysia’s Ministry of Health (MOH). She is also the Vice President of the Malaysian Association of Rehabilitation Physicians (MARP) and chairs its Special Interest Group on Stroke and Neurorehabilitation (MARP-SIG). In addition, she contributes as a Medical Advisor to the National Stroke Association of Malaysia (NASAM), supporting community-based stroke recovery initiatives and public education.
Internationally, she represents Malaysia as a Board Member of the Asia-Oceanian Society for NeuroRehabilitation (AOSNR), contributing to regional advancement in neurorehabilitation standards and practice. Dr. Norhayati’s clinical and academic interests center on stroke rehabilitation, peripheral neuropathies, and neurodegenerative disorders. She is especially passionate about emerging innovations in neurorehabilitation and deeply fascinated by the therapeutic influence of nature and environmental enrichment on neurological recovery.
