Senior Research Scientist
Shepherd Center
Atlanta, GA, United States
I am a senior research scientist and director of technology research and development programs at Shepherd Center, focusing on R&D for assistive and rehabilitation technology for people with all types of disability, and on user needs and usability of technology product and services. I lead several R&D projects for mobile software applications and clinical interventions based on mainstream consumer technology platforms. I direct several R&D projects focusing on user needs and usability for the mRehab Rehabilitation Engineering Research Center (mRehab RERC). I currently lead Shepherd Center's Accessibility User Research Collective (AURC), which provides industry-sponsored research services to consumer technology companies, connecting them with users with disabilities. These projects have resulted in peer-reviewed publications, conference presentations, regulatory filings, and training and education curricula. Additionally, I have served as co-investigator for three collaborative projects with Kessler Foundation on clinical evaluation of caregiving skills and development of online training materials for paid caregivers of people with spinal cord injury. This cumulative experience has allowed me to develop skills in research design, analysis, assistive technology development and assessment, budgeting, inter-institutional collaboration, and project management. Prior to joining Shepherd Center, I worked for Oracle Corporation as a senior product development manager, designing and validating products and services, and was visiting assistant professor at the University of Connecticut. I have served in leadership roles for the American Congress of Rehabilitation Medicine (ACRM), including serving as chair of the Technology Networking Group.
