Research Health Science Specialist
VA Palo Alto Health Care System
Menlo Park, California, United States
I am a Research Health Science Specialist at VA Palo Alto Health Care System, CA. I completed medical school in Kerman, Iran, and earned my Ph.D. in Clinical Trials and Translational Research from the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai. My current research focuses on two main areas: the comorbidities after Traumatic brain injury (TBI) and substance use among high-risk populations. I began my journey at the VA in 2019. I have managed and completed several research projects, including two randomized controlled trials (RCTs), multiple longitudinal studies, and cost-effectiveness analyses of various strategies implemented within the Veterans Health Administration (VHA). I have collaborated with Drs. Cifu, Pogoda, Dismuke-Greer, and Pugh on several studies related to neurotrauma, neurodegeneration, and health economics. As part of the DoD/VA-funded "Long-Term Impact of Military-Relevant Brain Injury Consortium" (LIMBIC) Award, our team conducted several TBI and SCI-related studies, including my research supplement award aimed at promoting diversity using the LIMBIC cohort. We successfully achieved the study's aims, and the results were published in "Frontiers in Neurology" (two papers) and presented at the Military Health System Research Symposium (MHSRS). Additionally, findings from this project related to community care were recently presented at the Addiction Health Services Research (AHSR) Conference 2024.
Conducting the study titled "Cost-effectiveness of VA Healthcare for Post-9/11 Veterans with Traumatic Brain Injury and/or Spinal Cord Injury" will enable us to create clinically relevant recommendations for the in-home care of Post-9/11 Veterans with comorbid TBI and SCI. I have extensive experience designing and monitoring trials and cohort studies similar to the proposed research, as well as conducting causal inference analysis in longitudinal studies. I am proficient in SQL, SAS, and Stata for statistical analysis of trials and longitudinal observational studies. In the proposed study, I will serve as the principal investigator, working closely with and under the supervision of Drs. Cifu and Dismuke-Greer. I will be primarily responsible for designing the study SOPs and protocol, overseeing data quality, and analyzing the collected data.
