Movement Disorders Fellow
Neurology
Baltimore, Maryland, United States
I am a forth-year neurology resident (PGY-4) at Johns Hopkins Hospital. I will start movement disorders fellowship in July 2025 at Johns Hopkins. In my future career as a movement disorders specialist, I aim to enhance patient outcomes through medical education, clinical excellence and expanding access to healthcare. I am interested in medical education and medical education research. My aim is to further explore innovative teaching methods and develop educational interventions and assess their impact on learner outcomes. In medical school, I conducted medical education research under Michael Ryan, MD, MEHP, who is now the Associate Dean for Assessment, Evaluation, Research and Innovation at University of Virginia as well at Sally Santen, MD, PhD, Senior Associate Dean of Evaluation, Assessment and Scholarship at VCU SOM. Under their guidance, I analyzed reliability and generalizability data of two scales used to score medical students on performance in Entrustable Professional Activities, a competency based medical education framework. In residency, I have been working under the guidance of Rachel Salas, MD, MED, Professor of Neurology and Ashley Paul, MD, Assistant Professor of Neurology (current neurology clerkship director). I am serving as a House staff apprentice as part of The Osler Apprenticeship Program, a multifaceted medical education program aimed to provide early exposure to a Medical Education career to medical students. I have analyzed this program from the perspective of the learner, alumni, and faculty. I am also participating in a Health Systems Science graduate medical education distinction tract.
As part of my path to greater research involvement within movement disorders, I am now participating as a study team member for project “Rhythmic Auditory Stimulation (RAS) on Gait in PD Patients with Deep Brain Stimulation (DBS).” My previous experience working in free clinics (Paul Hom Asian Clinic, Sacramento CA and Congregations Around Richmond involved to Assure Shelter, Richmond VA) and delivering healthcare abroad (Tijuana - Healing Hearts Across Borders, San Diego, CA, Dominican Republic – HOMBRE, Richmond VA, Nicaragua – Global Medical Brigades, San Diego, CA), has inspired me to create a community based participatory research project aimed to provide a free and accessible therapeutic exercise/music -based program to Parkinson’s Disease patients in Baltimore City. I am working under the guidance of Kelly Mills, MD, MHS, Director of the Movement Disorders Division, and Alex Pantelyat, MD, Co-Founder and Co-Director of the Johns Hopkins Center for Music & Medicine. With the funding of this grant and under the guidance of Dr. Mills and Dr. Pantelyat, I believe that we can build trust in the Baltimore city community and increase Black/African American participation in Parkinson’s Disease research.
