Dr. Schwertfeger is an Assistant Professor in Allied Health with research and clinical appointments in neurology, neurosurgery, and neuroscience. Her research focuses on non-invasive brain stimulation adjunctive interventions to advance recovery outcomes after brain injury in adults. As a clinical specialist in neurologic physical therapy and a certified brain injury specialist trainer, he clinical teaching and practice has included program development, stewarding disease specific certification in stroke across a hospital network, and intensive educational neurologic clinics for a DPT program. Dr. Schwertfeger taught in and acted as department liaison to the interdisciplinary neuroscience and physiology courses from 2015 through 2020 and currently teaches in the Rehabilitation Science Program at LSUH. Dr. Schwertfeger also teaches lectures in the medical and interprofessional pharmacy college at Rosalind Franklin University. She completed a postdoctoral research fellowship at Dr. Bharathi Swaminathan and secondary mentor Sangeetha Madhavan. She also holds an honorary membership in the Motor Behavior and Neurorehabilitation Laboratory of Dr. Carolee Winstein at the University of Southern California.
Dr. Schwertfeger has extensive experience with severe brain injury impairment rehabilitation across levels of care including community settings. She published a systematic review protocol ad is completing the manuscript to publish the full review this year.
