Interdisciplinary Approach to Prolonged Disorders of Consciousness: A Case Report

Learning Objectives:

• Describe the role of interdisciplinary collaboration- including occupational therapy, physical therapy, music therapy, psychiatry, physical medicine and rehabilitation physicians, and ethics consultation in the care of a patient within prolonged disorders of consciousness.
• Identify specific therapeutic interventions and outcome measures (i.e. Coma Recovery Scale- Revised, Modified Tardieu Scale, AMPAC-6 Click) used in the case to support recovery and goal setting.
• Analyze and discuss challenges associated with categorizing disorders of consciousness and how these classifications influence long-term care planning, communication, and patient outcomes.
