Navigating recovery after pediatric concussion is often complicated by inconsistent return-to-learn (RTL) and return-to-play (RTP) protocols, which can lead to delays in care and clinician uncertainty. This session addresses current challenges in pediatric concussion management, focusing on how protocol variability impacts decision-making across school and sports settings.
Participants will critically examine the evolving landscape of RTL and RTP guidelines, with emphasis on two emerging clinical tools: the Post-Concussion Educational Resource (POCKIT) and the Clinical Assessment of Sports and Physical Exertion (CASE). These evidence-informed resources offer structure and clarity in managing recovery timelines and support more individualized care.
Attendees will leave with actionable strategies for applying updated guidelines and tools to create personalized, developmentally appropriate concussion management plans. The goal: to promote safer, more efficient recoveries and build confidence among providers, families, and youth athletes navigating the return to school and sport.
