Chungyi (Chung-Yi) Chiu, Ph.D., CRC, LPC, is an associate professor in the Department of Health and Kinesiology (formerly Department of Kinesiology and Community Health) at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign (UIUC). Dr. Chiu received her Ph.D. in rehabilitation psychology from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and her master’s degree in occupational therapy from the National Taiwan University. She is the founder and director of the Health Promotion and Rehabilitation Laboratory. She is the ARCA Rehabilitation Counselor of the Year in 2024 recognized by the American Rehabilitation Counseling Association (ARCA). She is the five-time winner of the Research Award honored by the ARCA. Her research interests include health promotion, psychosocial adjustment, self-management, healthcare use experience, and social participation in people with chronic illness and disability. She has been the principal investigator of studies funded by the National Institutes of Health, the National Institute on Disability, Independent Living, and Rehabilitation Research, the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, the Craig H. Neilsen Foundation, the Robert R. McCormick Foundation, and the UIUC.
