Katie Polo, DHS, OTR, CLT-LANA, FAOTA, is a Professor in the School of Occupational Therapy at the University of Indianapolis. Dr. Polo, alongside her research team, developed through the Delphi method, the first screening tool specific to the cancer population that detects a need for occupational therapy (OT) services, the Screen of Cancer Survivorship-Occupational Therapy Services (SOCS-OTS). This novel screening tool allows physicians, nurse practitioners, nurse navigators, primary care physicians, and referring professionals to understand when an order for OT services is needed. Dr. Polo is currently partnering with an international partner to translate the tool into Hebrew and Arabic versions and with MD Anderson in Houston, TX to explore its psychometric properties.
