Concept Development of “user Involvement” in Using Digital Technologies in Stroke Rehabilitation: Application of Hybrid Model 4235

This study aims to clarify and conceptualize user involvement in stroke rehabilitation using digital technologies. Employing a hybrid model of concept analysis, the research integrates systematic literature review and empirical data from interviews with stroke survivors. Searches were performed in four databases: OVID Medline, Pedro, CINAHL, and Cochrane Library, covering studies from inception to December 4th, 2024. All qualitative, quantitative, or systematic review studies related to user involvement were screened. After removing duplicates, 130 studies were screened based on title, abstract, and keywords according to eligibility criteria. Thirteen studies were finally included for full-text review. The systematic search revealed that ‘user’ in combination with ‘involvement’, ‘participation’, or variations of ‘perspectives’ or ‘experience’ appeared in studies mostly after 2020. Most studies considered user involvement as ‘being actively involved or engaged,’ though the determinants and effects varied. The findings emphasize the importance of personal contact, responsibility, and collaboration in digital rehabilitation services, offering a refined definition of user involvement that encompasses active engagement, interpersonal connection, and self-management.
